Sickness Management

Employees are the most valuable asset an organisation has and as such sickness absence costs:

  • UK Plc over £12 billion a year;
  • Employers £495 a year in direct costs for every worker employed. Indirect costs are probably considerably more (CBI 2005 statistics)

The HSE recognises that a sensible and pragmatic sickness absence programme will drastically reduce these costs for an organisation through the following:

  • Improved business performance;
  • Retention of valued staff;
  • Safe and healthy workplaces;
  • Better workplace relations.

Recent studies by the Government and Dame Carol Black, emphasise the importance of a focus on returning as many people as possible back to the workplace – evidence suggests that employees who are off work for more than two months lose the motivation to work.

MKOH therefore recognises that rapid intervention when an injury or illness occurs, leads to a rapid and effective rehabilitation into the workplace and can provide a range of proactive measures to assist in sickness absence management.

MKOH provide active participation by our professional staff in Policy and Procedures development and close interaction with your management team in all aspects of sickness absence with a visible presence in the workplace.

Counselling

First Level Counselling.

The MKOH OH Nurse can provide "first level" counselling.

We provide stress counselling, although this would primarily be aimed at providing coping strategies for the minor problem areas, or in more complex cases determining the appropriate type of counselling for the individual and discussing a way forward with the management (if appropriate) and the individual. As appropriate we would then liaise with other specialists.

Full Counselling Services

MKOH works with The Swan Clinic for referral to full counselling services.  Details can be found at www.swanclinic.co.uk .  The Swan Clinic can provide on-site, clinic based on telephone consultations as appropriate to each individual’s needs.
